La Triguena Morena

La Triguena Morena is Jen’s first collage portrait series that specifically centers Afro-Latina artists and designers whose creative practices are rooted in collective liberation, justice, equitable representation in art and design education, visual media, and disability culture. Despite the lack of consistent disability representation in Black and Brown communities, Jen believes that each of these creative forces should be honored and given their flowers now while they can still receive them. We plant, We bloom and we nurture.

Five portraits are now on display at MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana, in San Jose, CA as a part of the group exhibition ‘Pertenecer’ which means ‘To Belong’ in Spanish, the focus of the show embodies how many of us struggle with duality of origins - all of us want to find belonging, how do we do that as mixed-race Americans? The Show runs from Dec 2, 2022 to March 19, 2023

I have decided to extend the series online via my website and social media spaces throughout 2022-2023 giving flowers to the fellow fierce and creative Afro/Black/Latina/& Caribbeans who share a similar cultural narrative to mine and who have inspired me throughout my creative journey.

Digital Collages were printed on canvas and canvas sizes range from 20 x 24’ to 11 x 14’
