MET Discoveries Zine Making Workshop
April 19, 2026, New York
This is what happens when you put neurodivergent and disabled creatives in charge of art programming! Big Thanks to my art fam, Associate Educator of Accessibility Education Sarit Cahana, and the entire access education team at the MET for having me!
I had so much fun meeting families and connecting with other Autistic folks while leading a collage-making workshop for “Discoveries,” which is a tour and art-making program for autistic and I/DD visitors. This event serves visitors ages 5 to 23+ Collage zine-making workshop in tribute to the visionary Lillian Bassman. I taught four back-to-back workshops, split by age.
As an educator, zine workshops are my absolute fav, especially when I get to request super stimmy supplies and materials to work with! Our zine and collage-making are infused with deconstructed silhouettes inspired by the MET’s current Lillian Bassman fashion photography and editorial design exhibition. I encouraged participants to create radical re-compositions of Lillian's work and style, cutting, layering, and rearranging figures as Lillian would have done!
We integrated and mixed patterns and textures to reclaim the space from traditional high fashion to personal identity, mood over perfection! The results were absolutely amazing! These are some of my favorite zines yet! Watching everyone connect with the materials and create their own experimental collages was life-giving!
